Analysis post

The song that will be analyzed is “He Didn’t Analytical Essay
Have To Be,” sang and written by Brad Paisley. This song has deep meaning and was meant to be that way so that people could relate to what the song is about. This song is about a single mom meeting another man, and the man stepping to play the role of the father that had left the family. The song is sung as if it is the little boy speaking. That’s where the title of the song comes from “he didn’t have to be”.
The song was written and released in the month of August and year 1999; in December of 1999 it became the first number one single for Brad Paisley. The song was created and based on Paisleys frequent co-writer and best friend, Kelly Lovelace’s stepson. Paisleys song stayed in the Top 30 Billboard country songs up until the year 2001 and was ranked number 33. Still today the song is aired on many country radio stations quite often. So twenty-one years later the song must be great to many others as well.
This song is written based on the perspective of a son and single mother. The mother has tried dating before but when they discover she has a son they leave her. When the mother meets this man he immediately includes both the mother in son with things like going to the movies and such. The man becomes his step dad and in the final verse the “little now grown boy” is standing in the nursery waiting to see his newborn and states to his stepfather “ I Hope I’m At Least Half The Dad That You Didn’t Have To Be”. These lyrics mean that the stepdad did not have to take that role of being the boys father but he did when he didn’t have to, and he raised the boy just like his own. The audience targeted by this song is not just a single type of person but Stepsons, stepfathers, and families. The lyrics create some imagery by telling some of the things the stepfather did with the boy giving you scene of imagery. The lyrics that stand out the most would be “ I Hope I’m At Least Half The Dad That You Didn’t Have To Be “ these lyrics stand out the most because the stepson is now having a child of his own and he just hopes to be good as a father and his stepdad was and saying his stepfather didn’t even have to be the father that he was.
Some Instruments used in the song were acoustic and electric guitar along with a bass. These instruments were used to set a tone for the song and show the speed and feeling coming from the lyrics. They give a slow speed to set the mood of the listener.
The song is able to make the listener feel thankful if they can relate and make listeners better understand people in that situation and know that a father isn’t based on blood but by love. The music style for this song was contemporary country.
The rhythm and cords played throughout this song was set in the key of A- major in common time with his voice ranging from A3 to D5. This also sets tone for the song and mood for the listener. Overall this song effected other by showing respect to the stepfathers and the love the can have for a child that isn’t biologically there’s.
This song was a number one billboard chart song and touched the hearts of many children, fathers, stepfathers and families. The song is still being heard today and still touching the hearts of people.
